Kimberly Lee offered a session on May 14.
Kimberly Lee facilitated “In Living Color: Writing In Vivid Hues” on May 14, 2022. Participants explored the impact of color in writing—how it sets a mood, shapes our perception of characters, and influences our emotions. Through imaginative and unusual prompts, attendees witnessed how color goes beyond the visual, adding delicious flavor to the stories we tell.
Lee left the practice of law to focus on motherhood, community work, and creative pursuits. A graduate of Stanford University and UC Davis School of Law, she is certified by Amherst Writers & Artists and is a Journal to the Self® instructor, a SoulCollage® facilitator, and a student of Intentional Creativity. She is an editor and contributor at Literary Mama and a teaching artist with several writing centers. Her work has appeared in Fresh Ink, Words and Whispers, Toyon, and elsewhere. She lives in Southern California with her husband and three children.

The Bond of Colours by Sinéad MacDevitt
Light spills on the lake. The sun tints the landscape, colouring the fields with strokes of lilac and purple. Light drops balls of cotton wool on the purple pallet stripes. Under the tree, the deer and the fawn appear to be tinted with white. Are their colours white through my artistic lenses or are they a new species? The spillage of white on the lake forms a shape that could be a reflection: a merged reflection of the mother and baby attachment. At the tree, the branches are shaded in purple from a distance. But if I come closer, will they turn to green? The rise in the distance is crowned by a triangular shape. It looks like the Sugarloaf Mountain in Ireland. Or is it just a shape outlining the pattern reflected by the bond?
Thank you for joining us for Write Around the World!
For the rest of the summer, watch our blog! We are sharing writing from AWA’s yearly marathon fundraiser, which happened this year all-online throughout the month of May.
We offer this series in appreciation for the incredible community of writers and workshop leaders that sustain us. If you’re inspired and would like to be part of the fundraiser, please donate!
