If you are interested in joining us, please visit the application page. We offer one to two reduced-tuition spaces in each training session. To learn more about financial assistance and apply for those opportunities, please visit our financial aid page.
If you have been accepted into the program and you’d like to pay the balance due for your tuition, please contact us to receive an invoice.
If you have been accepted and are not able to attend the training session (if, for example, you are waitlisted and a space does not open up), we will keep your application and deposit towards a future session unless you tell us that you would like the deposit returned minus an administration fee.
If you decide to leave your application open and your deposit with AWA, it will be your responsibility to contact us and let us know which future training session you would like to attend. We continue to accept applications for all training sessions and operate on a first come, first-served basis. Your acceptance into the program does not automatically place you in a future training session.
Online Post-Certificate Trainings
Our post-certificate training modules are offered as free online sessions for those who have paid dues to AWA. Affiliates can attend one session per year on a first-come, first-served basis. These sessions explore a variety of topics relevant to seasoned workshop facilitators in a small group setting. For more information, please view our current offerings.
We are also offering some special trainings that are open to all AWA-certified leaders regardless of affiliate status for just $25.00 USD. Please click the link above to view those as well.
On-site Training
Do you know a social services organization looking to expand what you offer to your clients? A writing organization seeking training to better-serve those on the margins? An educational setting that wants to explore a different way to teach writing? We can bring AWA’s curriculum to you!
If you have a group of 6 or more people ready to receive this training, please reach out to us. We’d love to hear about your interest and share our availability.
Our highly-skilled instructors can travel to you and lead a version of our immersive workshop leadership training. Over 40 hours of experiential learning, we prepare attendees to lead workshops based on the method outlined in Pat Schneider’s Writing Alone and With Others (Oxford University Press). Participants who successfully complete the training are certified to lead workshops in the AWA method. Leaders have used this method to build confidence, exercise creativity, and even promote healing in schools, hospitals, jails, prisons, homeless and domestic violence shelters, and beyond.
- Increase your organization’s capacity to serve its clients
- Build writing and communication skills among staff
- Strengthen leadership potential in each individual who participates
In the past, groups have funded trainings with grants. We are willing to work within constraints of the grantor’s requirements (as we are able without compromising the method). Get in touch to discuss your unique financial and organizational needs. We’d love to welcome you into our community and help you incorporate this powerful way of writing together into you work.
For more information about the impact an AWA training could have on your staff and clients, watch this video about how Visions in Education implemented the AWA method.
If you aren’t an affiliated non-profit or other organization, we may still be able to work with you. We always welcome your inquiry even if our training isn’t ultimately the right fit.
