To begin your application online, please click on your preferred training below. If you’re interested in applying for financial aid (we offer some based on need and also have a program to provide reduced-cost spots for workshop leaders of color), you can learn more about that process here.
If you prefer to mail your application, please print and fill out our application form. Your completed form along with contact information for two references, your brief writing sample, and your deposit payment can be mailed to:

Your application is complete when we’ve received an application form, a writing sample, contact information for your references, and a $500 deposit towards your training tuition.
If your application is not accepted, the deposit will be returned less a $50 administrative fee. If your application is accepted, our cancellation policy is as follows: When written cancellation notice is received 3 months before the training, all but $50 is refunded. When cancellation notice is received 2 months before the training, all but $250 is refunded. When cancellation notice is received 1 month before, all but $500 is refunded. When cancellation is less than 30 days before the start of the training, no refund will be provided. No transfers to other training dates are possible within 30 days of the training start date.
Amherst Writers & Artists reserves the right to determine whether each individual is prepared to uphold the principles and practices of the AWA method. We do not guarantee certification as an AWA workshop leader following completion of the program.
