Guidelines

Peregrine has provided a forum for national and international writers since 1983 and is committed to finding exceptional work by both emerging and established writers. We seek work that is unpretentious, memorable, and that reflects diversity of voice. We accept only original and unpublished poetry and short stories. Electronic submissions only. No work for or by children. Peregrine, published by Amherst Writers & Artists Press, offers payment at this time in the form of a contributor’s copy. Decisions are made by the editors after all submissions have arrived, so our response time may be slower than that of other literary journals. We welcome simultaneous submissions.

Poetry:

Submissions of up to three, single-spaced poems of no more than 50 lines each (including stanza breaks) will be accepted.
We’re looking for well-written, thoughtful, previously unpublished poems that inform and surprise us. We appreciate fresh and specific imagery and layered metaphors (but not excessive verbiage, abstractions or clichés). We will not consider inspirational poetry, greeting-card verse, religious tirades, or nostalgia.
Peregrine has a mandate of inclusivity which encompasses encouraging the work of emerging as well as established poets. We also encourage submissions from groups which have not historically been well represented in mainstream literature, such as LGBTQ, neurodivergent, POC and writers with disabilities.
Please include a bio of no more than 50 words with your submission.
