As 2022 soon turns to 2023, we’re celebrating all we’ve accomplished this year and preparing for the next.
This year, your support has helped AWA to:
- Train 47 new workshop leaders
- Publish the largest edition ever of AWA’s literary magazine, Peregrine
- Award eight training scholarships with a focus on BIPOC workshop leaders
- Offer the first of our “Power of Story” workshops for marginalized writers
- Hold our first post-certificate training in Writing Through Trauma
- Mentor new workshop facilitators through our Launchpad Program
- Bring together record numbers of writers and workshop leaders for our month-long Write Around the World event
- Begin the work of translating our training materials into Spanish
- Successfully pilot a new Monthly Writes Program that introduces writers
- everywhere to the magic of the AWA method
If this list excites you, and if you’ve been part of and benefitted from some of the items on it, you have the opportunity to contribute to make 2023 even better!
Here’s what your gift to AWA can make happen in the next year:
- Scholarships to train new facilitators from under-represented communities
- A new level of membership open to all writers! Including workshops for specific populations who need safe and supportive space for their voices
- Expanded “Power of Story” workshops, which will connect with social service and social justice agencies and showcase the AWA method as a resource for their clients
- Translation of the AWA training program into other languages
- Expanded AWA publishing, including
- an edition of Peregrine devoted to the voices of Indigenous writers
- a new book answering questions about the method from the notes left by Pat Schneider
- a book on the craft of writing from a uniquely AWA perspective
- an anthology of writing by caregivers
Your contribution to our goal of $4,773.00 by December 31 is vital to making our plans into reality. We are so grateful to have you as part of our community. Thank you for sharing our belief that writing as an art form belongs to all people.
Thank you!
